Walt Webking’s passion for serving others and his community grew out of his own families’ need to seek assistance when they faced difficult times themselves in the past. Opened in 2011, A Christian Food Pantry is the inspiration of its founder and director. North Texas Food Bank agreed to donate $10,000 and provide a truck full of food each week if Walt would start a pantry in East Plano where there was such great need. Walt’s leadership has built the pantry to become the largest pantry in East Plano. In addition, he has, since its fruition, operated the pantry without any paid staff, including himself. Volunteers, donations and sales from a separate thrift shop have been part of his long term solution to attacking this hunger problem in Collin County. Prior to establishing A Christian Food Pantry, Walt was the owner of Safetel, Inc., a pre-paid phone card company and he volunteered at a number of food pantries. Walt is a long time resident of Plano.
